Greg Loughman in ensembles

Here's a list of some folks I have the pleasure of making music with on occasion:

Sinistral: a piano trio led by and featuring modern(ish) jazz(ish) compositions and arrangements by yours truly, with Kyle Aho on piano and Mike Connors on drums.

Iskar: a musical group (featuring Jerry Sabatini on trumpet, Phil Sargent on guitar, myself on bass, and Mike Connors on drums) that channels elements of jazz, Balkan music, electronica, and progressive rock into a modern free jazz jam band format.

Roving Soul: a trio featuring Jerry Sabatini on trumpet, Chris Veilleux, and me which blends traditional and modern folksongs that speak the common language of the human experience. The group plays composed, reinterpreted and improvised music that is multi-ethnic, imaginative, and playful.

John Funkhouser Trio: an energetic, accessible blend of modern jazz, funk, blues, 20th century classical, Indian classical, and European and American folk music which create a funky, groove oriented, fresh and original sound. Me on bass and Mike Connors on drums again (he's awesome.)

Yoko Miwa: "Pianist Yoko Miwa displays unpretentious melodies, elegant phrasing, and the lyrical sensibility of a jazz poet" -Jazziz Magazine  (I couldn't have said it better myself...)

The Rex Complex: combines the foundation of roots music and old country mixed with the chaos and intensity of punk and indie rock to create a unique sound we like to call "roots ruckus"

Klezwoods: "Klezmer meets Balkan in a Jazz club" says Klezwoods' fearless leader, violinist Joe Kessler.

Jerry Sabatini: an amazing composer and trumpeter, he runs that crazy band the Sonic Explorers when not playing with Phil and me in Iskar or Chris and me in Roving Soul. Mike again on drums  (we sound totally different in each group, I swear!)

Nick Grondin: an excellent up and coming guitarist and composer, winner of the 2007 & 2008 Down Beat Magazine Student Music Awards, the 2008 and 2009 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards.

Aubrey Johnson: a fabulous young vocalist, winner of the Outstanding Performance - Jazz Vocalist 2007 DownBeat Student Music Awards and the Best Jazz Vocalist 2008 Down Beat Student Music Awards.

Harry Fix:  a swingin' pianist who's always a lot of fun to work with.

Springhill: a great ensemble of musicians I met while living in Montana, and have been lucky enough to tour with in the Czech Republic. They compose and perform an exciting blend of jazz, folk, and world music that is a challenge and a pleasure to perform.
